Useful & Unusual Links
My favorites:
- Dave's Garden - A member supported Website. The number and varieties of plants listed on the site are staggering. If you can't find it in Dave's Garden, it probably can't be grown.
- Gardenweb.com - In terms of Florida - The Florida Gardening Forum of gardenweb.com competes with Dave's Garden and, in some ways, the posts are better written and more diverse. However, it lacks the quirky participants of Dave's Garden and the house authorities. There is also an excellent California Gardening Forum.
An alphabetic List:
- AfricanGarden.com A website dedicated to Southern African Bulbs and their hybrids (excellent images). Central Florida has much in common with the growing conditions of South Africa (see also plantzafrica.com below).
- Annie's Annuals Superb quality, excellent service, a quirky attitude, fantastic flowers. What else could you want?
- Center for Plant Conservation
- Dave's Garden
- digital-librarian.com - An excellent starting point for other gardening links.
- EarthBox
- Environmental Horticulture Department of the University of Florida
- flowersforums.com
- Garden Forever
- Gardening for Kids
- GardenWeb - A great site for forums on gardening and the home. While I prefer Dave's Garden (mostly for the characters that contribute and a few of the regulars who are real experts), GardenWeb is a excellent resource.
- Glossary of plants
- Home Gardening Guide
- Home Owner's Resource Guide to Lawn and Gardens A useful list of links to basic gardening resources.
- Identify that Tree
- Japanese Gardens
- Montgomery Botanical Center
- National Clonal Germplasm Repository
- National Tropical Botanical Gardens - Comprehensive database on hundreds of tropical plants.
- Nature Photography - Shirley Denton's extensive, almost boundless, collection of photographs of Florida plants and wildlife. Where did she get the time?
- plantzafrica.com - Plants native to South Africa. An interesting comparison with plants that grow in a climate similar to Central Florida.
- plantsystematics.org (diversityoflife.org) As the site says, "Built by Biologists" and a bit of a challenge for the non-biologist to navigate or understand. Regardless, the site has over 20,000 images.
- Something Different....
- Southern-Gardening.com
- The Wise gardener
- Tropical Plants Library Online
- Urban Forest Ecology Institute While UFEI is part of Cal Poly and focuses on urban forests in California, the site contains an extensive database of trees.
- USDA Plants Database
