Bill's Garden

Welcome - I created this website to satisfy three of my passions - gardening, photography and fiddling on the Internet. While I've been gardening actively for three decades, this site is primarily devoted to the two gardens I created over the last decade - one near Tampa and the other in Richmond, California on San Francisco Bay. One is in Hardiness Zone 9a (Tampa) and the other in 10a (Richmond). So most of my favorite plants and recommendations focus on plants that can grow in these two hardiness zones.

If you find any broken links or have any suggestions on how to improve the site, please feel free to contact me. I've been receiving more and more communications from elementary school classes asking me to include some of the worthwhile sites they have found in their projects. I really appreciate these suggestions and try to go out of my way to accommodate them. So keep your ideas coming!

Madrid Jardin Botanica (July 6, 2013) - I just returned from walking the El Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in Spain for eight weeks. On the way home I stopped in Madrid and spent a day walking through the Jardin Botanica next to the Prado Museum. It is an enormous public garden with acres of roses, peonies, iris and other plants. I was enthralled. Click here for a slide show of the pictures (to start the slide show, just click on the picture that pops up in flickr).

Container Gardening (June 14, 2013) - There are not a lot of good resources on the Internet to help people with container gardening. Until now. Annie's Annuals has just released an excellent video on container gardening that is well worth viewing (if just to see the beautiful flowers in the nursery). I guess I'm going to have to throw out all my small pots.
