- Snapdragon (Antirrhinum majus)
Annuals that come in various sizes from 6" to 3'. They may be planted in Zone 9 anywhere from October through December or in February for bloom in the Spring.
Perfrom best in cool weather. So the earlier you plant Snapdragons, the longer the blooming period before the plants wilt in the heat of late Spring. Seeds germinate on top of the soil, so it is not practical to keep the seeds moist by watering from above - use a medium that gets its water from below. Pinch back snapdragons when they are a few inches tall to encourage bushiness and deadhead flowers after they have bloomed to encourage a second bloom cycle.
I recommend the Snapdragon Rocket variety from Park Seeds.
