Dombeya
There are at least two basic forms of Dombeya: a tree form or large shrub (d. walliccii) which is marginal for most of Zone 9 and the shrub or Seminole variety, which does well in Zones 9 -11.
- Florida Hydrangea, Dombeya Seminole or Tropical Snowball (dombeye burgessiae) - The Seminole variety blooms in the winter (may bloom twice in early and late winter). The blossoms are bright pink or red. Will tolerate light shade to full sun. The plant is spreading to 6' to 10' tall and 6' to 8' wide. Does well in sun. Can be grown in light shade, but flower production is reduced.
- Pink-Ball (dombeya walliccii) Easily damaged by frost.
